Jon Bernthal‘s passion project is starting to come to life.
The Walking Dead and Baby Driver alum is set to create, star in and co-write Amazon drama The Bottoms, a project he has quietly worked on developing for the past decade.
Created by Bernthal, who will co-write alongside Ben Watkins (Burn Notice), The Bottoms will follow the interconnected systems of family structures, friends and neighbors, law enforcement, and criminality all intersecting in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the early ’90s. Set in a particularly wild corner of the Deep South, the show will examine the inflection points, the blurred lines and the human cost on all sides.
Details on which role Bernthal will portray were not immediately available as the project remains in the development stage. Bernthal and Watkins will co-write and exec produce. Reinaldo Marcus Green is attached to exec produce and direct, should the script move forward. Automatik exec produces. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Rian Cahill, Justin Levy and Fred Berger will executive produce for Automatik.
Bernthal has a busy 2021 ahead as he’s starring in three Warner Bros. features: King Richard, The Many Saints of Newark and Those Who Wish Me Dead. He also has the indie film Small Engine Repair, which he produced. He also is attached to star in FX’s anthology Platform. He begins production on Showtime pilot American Gigolo early next year as well. He’s repped by WME, manager Dani Bernfeld and Sloane Offer.
