This is the Star Wars droid fans are looking for — if they have the funds. To celebrate the upcoming May 4 celebration, Lego on Wednesday introduced an insanely detailed R2-D2 model.
Available for order May 1, the R2-D2 building set includes authentic details of the beloved character, including a retractable mid-leg, rotating head, opening and extendable front hatches, a periscope that can be pulled up and turned — and Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber hidden in a compartment in the dome, according to Lego.
Of course, all that awesomeness is not cheap. The Star Wars droid figure, which comprises 2,314 pieces, will sell for $199.99, according to Lego. The building set includes a buildable display stand with an information plaque and a special Lucasfilm 50th anniversary Lego brick.
The R2-D2 measures more than 12.5 inches in height and 7.5 inches in width and is 6 inches deep, according to the Lego specification.
In addition to R2-D2, Lego also recently introduced new kits for its Star Wars helmet collection, which includes Darth Vader and Scout Trooper. Already released were Boba Fett, a Stormtrooper and a TIE fighter pilot helmet. A new Imperial Probe Droid building set will be released April 26. The 683-piece Imperial Probe Droid will have a price tag of $59.99.
