Season three of HBO’s Succession is coming together.
Alexander Skarsgard has signed on for a recurring guest star role in the upcoming third season of the Emmy-winning drama. The True Blood and Big Little Lies alum will return to HBO and play Lukas Matsson, a successful, confrontational tech founder and CEO in the breakout series from showrunner and creator Jesse Armstrong.
Production on the pandemic-delayed season is currently underway. Here’s the official logline, courtesy of HBO: “Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of season two, Logan Roy begins season three in a perilous position. Scrambling to secure familial, political and financial alliances, tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.”
Skarsgard joins Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond and Jihae with recurring roles in season three. A premiere date has not yet been determined.
The casting brings Skarsgard back to HBO after he earned an Emmy, among other accolades, for his role opposite Nicole Kidman in Big Little Lies. In addition to his parts in the premium cabler’s True Blood and Generation Kill, Skarsgard’s credits include Godzilla vs. Kong, reuniting with Kidman in the upcoming The Northman, AMC’s limited series The Little Drummer Girl and Netflix’s Hold the Dark. He’s repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
Armstrong returns as showrunner and exec produces alongside Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown and Will Ferrell.
