A full-fledged Friends cast reunion has yet to materialize on HBO Max, but Sunday’s Emmy Awards brought half the ensemble together for a brief sketch.
Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow joined Jennifer Aniston on camera during the show. The bit came when host Jimmy Kimmel checked in with Aniston — who had presented the first award of the night at the start of ABC’s broadcast — to see if she had made it “home” before her category, outstanding lead actress in a drama, was announced.
“You live together?” Kimmel asked.
“We’ve been living together since 1994,” Aniston replied.
The short bit also had another callback to the opening of the show, when Jason Bateman popped up behind the Friends stars. The Ozark actor and director had been sitting among cardboard cutouts in the theater, trying to pass himself off as inanimate before Kimmel called him out.
The full cast of Friends is slated to tape a reunion special for HBO Max, which is the exclusive SVOD home of the beloved NBC series. It had been scheduled to be part of the platform’s launch in late May but was delayed due to the pandemic. A date for the show hasn’t been set.
